See How Our Clients Are Using Our Designs - Part 3

I always love to see how people are using my dxf files. A lot of the cut ready dxf designs that I have created are intended for larger, more detailed custom projects. I aim to give you the design components you need to create awesome gates, railing panels, signs and truly special, one-of-a-kind pieces for yourself or your clients.

In this post we are going to look at some smaller custom projects that I have designed. I usually don’t get to see the finished design in person but the photographs that clients send are truly a blessing. Our metal-art gallery showcases some of the custom projects that we have received photographs of. Many of the designs in the product catalogue were designed to be cut as stand-alone smaller pieces, for example the welcome signs, coat racks and wall art, and can be used for a product line or a one-off piece. It always inspires me to see what you do with the designs because you guys have so much raw talent. If you have a photo of a piece you created using one of our products and you would like to share with us or the Facebook Group: CNC Metal Art DXF files and Designs please consider uploading it here.

The example shown below was designed for a client of Calaway Construction Inc. from Bigfork, Montana. The elk were a theme used through out the house and were cut for interior railing insets, cabinet door insets and lighting accents. Here they are included as decorative components in the exterior trusses, along with a custom monogram.
Elk DXF file used in truss inset designs.
The eagles were included in this sign for Eagles Landing, a housing development in Lakeside, Montana. This sign design was initially sketched for a custom post and beam home builder and developer. He had the frame built with the rock foundation and the eagles were placed as if to be flying in the trees, with one coming in to land on the rock. Copper plate is sandwiched between the powder coated steel so the lettering can be read from both sides. The sign was fabricated and installed by Mountain Metal Art, Ltd.

This double entry driveway gate, was designed with a bear and the bear cubs and trees. There are rocks included in the foreground and mountains in the background. It was designed for and crafted by Currier's Certified Welding of Kalispell, Montana.

The example shown below also showcases our soaring eagle. It was created by Mountain Metal Art, Ltd., for a client of Calaway Construction Inc. from Bigfork, Montana.

This sign depicting loons was designed as part of a suite of signs for Flathead River Ranch, a very prestigious, luxury real estate development on the Flathead River, in NW Montana.  Additional signs were designed for other parks, and for direction signs and address signs within the development. They were all fabricated and installed by Mountain Metal Art, Ltd.

We would love for you to use our cut ready designs to make your projects stand out from the crowd. Whatever you create will be unique, distinguished and exclusive! We have found that due to the nature of the fabrication and finishing process used in metal art production, our products seldom come out looking identical, even if the same design is used. This gives the pieces you create a sense of individuality that just cannot be replicated by the mass production process. You have the flexibility to add your own input into the designs, you can add or resize components or cut out just the parts you want to use. The possibilities are endless, you could create three dimensional pieces or include translucent acrylic, unique metal or different wood backgrounds. You could even add lighting or back-lighting effects that can enhance and completely change the look and feel of the piece.

The gate shown below was designed for a client of Currier's Certified Welding of Kalispell, MT. Their client requested a double entry driveway gate with aspen trees and accented with eagles.

Currier's Certified Welding forged and bent all the individual aspen tree branch components after cutting them on their CNC plasma table. The leaves were hand forged and welded to the branches. The drawing below shows the initial design concept with all the aspen tree branch components laid out, to give the client an idea of how it would look finished, with the leaves added and the eagles positioned on the gate.

After the main driveway entrance gate was built, the client also requested a matching walkway gate using the same design elements, depicted below:

Here are a couple of examples of some smaller projects that were fabricated and finished by one of our good clients, Gary from Arizona along with a few words that he wrote:

“I thought I would share the finished project with you. I framed and powder coated each panel and hung it at my cabin in the White Mountains of Arizona. I used a rough sawn red oak for the background. It looks great and your designs are beautiful and easy to work with. I'm already getting lots of great comments about them.”

“I will have the Soaring Eagle and Welcome pieces completed and mounted next month. Wait until you see the soaring eagle. I braised brass on the talons and beak! Awesome! The burnishing on the feathers is beautiful but the pictures don't do it justice. As soon as the cabin is stained, I will mount it and send a picture.

This is your “Welcome” sign in my front yard. It will be mounted on the cabin next month. I used brass in the background and created a 3-D effect by mounting additional trees in front of the main piece. I’m pretty happy with it and wanted to share it.”

Requesting Custom DXF Files for Metal Art Designs:

Our metal-art gallery showcases some of the custom projects we have designed that our clients have fabricated and we have photographed or they have sent us photographs. We have designed everything from elaborate double entry gates, railing panels, privacy panels and signs to custom artwork. No job is too small, we have also designed or converted to vector format all sorts of smaller projects, including: welcome signs, coat, mug and key racks, tack racks, vent covers, beam plates, strike plates, dead bolt latch plates, switch plates, shelf brackets, elaborate picket railing designs, fireplace screens and door sets, fire-pit rings, weathervanes, inserts for custom benches, window insets and lighting designs.

The graphics below depict marsh scene privacy panels that were designed for a client of ours in California, using silhouette elements (loons, sandhill cranes, ducks, pelicans and cattails) chosen from our product catalogue. The panels are 10' long by two' high. The DXF files were created using the individual vector art components, scaled to fill out a 30' scene area.

The designs were laser cut from the DXF files by Bay Area Metal Fabrication LLC, in Benicia, CA. The client then added the two-tone blue, translucent, acrylic background, had the panels powder coated and inlaid them in the wood frame.

"We are delighted with your work and your turn around time! We enjoyed working with you and your responsiveness, this is the finished look. Thank you! It is getting lots of compliments. Good job!" - Marek, Newark, CA

Reasons to Commission a Unique Metal Art Design

Renovating or refurbishing a space is exciting but it can also be stressful. Whether it’s a room in your home, a commercial space, or an entire building, identifying unique design that sets your space apart is not easy. We live in an age of instant gratification, convenience and speed and just about anything can be bought online. There are numerous options and it is easy to get overwhelmed by choice, trying to find well designed, beautifully crafted products. Whilst it may seem like a simple solution to visit a hardware superstore, they may be unable to offer a service that’s tailored to you, the needs of your home and vision. So why should you go beyond your comfort zone and select pieces which are unique in form, structure and material?

  1. A truly original design will stand out from the crowd.  It will be unique, distinguished and exclusive to your home or business, and it will transform your space in a visually appealing way that you will appreciate daily.
  2. You can rest assured that a quality metal art piece will last for years, and stand the test of time, adding value to your property. The designs, materials, and finishes will provide a unique aesthetic that will stay relevant and timeless.
  3. Consider custom designs if you’re looking for pieces that are original. Due to the nature of the fabrication and finishing process used in metal art production, no two products will be identical, even if the same design is used. This gives the piece a sense of individuality that just cannot be replicated by the mass production process.
  4. You have the flexibility to have your own input into the design, and control over the finish and dimensions. Personalize your metal art by including your favorite quotes, graphics, logo, monogram or anything else that represents you or your brand.
  5. The possibilities are endless, you could consider a three dimensional piece or include a translucent acrylic background or add lighting effects that can enhance and completely change the mood in a room. You could choose a traditional or rustic look or a sleek modern and elegant look with geometric patterns.
Reasons to Commission a Unique Metal Art Design
The entry gate and overhead sign depicted here were designed for Flathead River Ranch, a very prestigious and exclusive, luxury real estate development on the Flathead River, in North Western Montana. The automated entry gates, the overhead sign and a suite of direction signs were all designed to have matching mountain ridgelines. The gates and signs were fabricated by Mountain Metal Art, Ltd. of Kalispell, Montana. An additional suite of signs were designed for the park areas within the development. The Flathead River Ranch entry gateway is a unique selling point featured opening automatically at the start of their promotional fly-over video tour.
If standing out from the crowd is important to you, consider incorporating metal art in your décor. Whether you like abstract metal art or rustic designs, DXF Design can help you create the design you need to complete your look. If you’re concerned with quality, longevity and unique style, choosing a custom design is the best way to ensure that each piece reflects your vision, and blends seamlessly with its surroundings.
Our metal-art gallery showcases projects we have designed and our clients have fabricated. We have designed everything from elaborate gates, railing panels, privacy panels and signs to custom artwork. No job is too small, we have also designed or converted to vector format all sorts of smaller projects, including: welcome signs, coat, mug and key racks, tack racks, vent covers, beam plates, strike plates, dead bolt latch plates, switch plates, shelf brackets, elaborate picket railing designs, fireplace screens and doors, fire-pit rings, weathervanes, inserts for custom benches, window insets and lighting designs.

How to Commission a Custom Metal Art Design

12/20/2018

The first step in the process is to contact me with as much detail as you can about your project. Do you have any reference photos that you would like me to use? You can upload images on the custom design request form. Is there anything in particular about my design style that you like or anything that you don’t like? The more information I have, the better I can provide you with both design suggestions and an accurate estimate of the design cost for your project and the timeline. It is also a good idea to have a budget in mind and if necessary I can help you with ideas to keep costs within your budget.

Pricing for a design will depend on the size, the level of detail and whether or not we are drawing something completely new or using existing or repeating design elements. As a rough estimate you would be looking at anywhere from $25 to $75 per square foot for a finished custom design in DXF format. Larger scenes generally run toward the lower end of that range but again it really depends on the level of detail and design content. The more information you give me the better an estimate I can provide.
Picture
For custom design requests or if you request custom changes to be made (adding words or numbers or custom re-sizing of one of our existing designs) extra time will be required to complete the design and send it to you via e-mail or USB flash drive if requested. This will depend on the nature of the design request and the length of our waiting list.
Time and cost estimates for custom work will be given on a case by case basis after requests are received. We do our best to provide estimates within 48 business hours. In the event that we cannot provide you with an accurate estimate in that time frame, you will receive a response informing you that your request has been received and when you might expect to receive your estimate. This will depend on when a request is received, for example over the weekend/public holidays and how many requests we have in progress. We will be in consistent contact with you throughout the custom design process so that you know what to expect and when.

After we have discussed the particulars of your project and you have received your estimate, if you are ready to proceed, a 50% deposit is required to begin the design work. You will receive an invoice via e-mail for the deposit with a description of the work to be done and an estimated cost for the finished work. This cost will not be exceeded unless changes are agreed upon.

I will keep in contact with you throughout the process to show you design progress, sketch layouts followed by black and white silhouettes in jpeg format. This ensures that we are on the right track and you are getting the design you want.  If you request any changes that will affect the final cost of the design work I will relay that to you prior to making any changes. We don’t like surprises and hidden costs and believe that transparent pricing is the best policy. Once you are happy with the design it will be prepared in clean DXF format ready for cutting. Final payment is required in order receive a link to download the finished DXF file.
Custom Design Request Form
If you are having a welding shop do the cutting and any fabrication for you, I will be happy to send the DXF file direct to them. I do keep a directory of preferred fabricators, with CNC plasma, laser or waterjet cutting capabilities, so if you are not local to Kalispell, Montana and you do not have a welding or fabrication shop in mind to complete any fabrication for you please let me know. I will research shops in your area if I don’t have one on my list.
We will help you create a stunning and unique metal art project, just imagine it and have DXF Design help you bring it to life. #dxfdesign #dxf #dxffiles #plasma #laser #waterjet #cnc #metalart #silhouette #welding
